THE NEED FOR NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENTATION
You don’t need nutrient supplements if:
- You eat only whole, fresh-picked foods, organically grown in mineral-rich soils.
- The animals you eat have been grown in a humane environment and have been fed nutrient rich pesticide free food.
- You eat only freshly made foods.
- You get plenty of rest and exercise.
- You’re not under excessive emotional stress.
- You breathe fresh air and aren’t exposed to toxic chemicals in your environment.
- You have no genetic weaknesses that result in limited digestion and absorption of nutrients from foods.
- You have no problems with absorption and have a perfect balance of healthy intestinal flora.
If you meet all of the above requirements, you don’t need any nutrient supplements in your diet.
If you’re one of the people who doesn’t meet all of the above requirements, you should read on….
Supplement tablets can be split into two categories:
- Crystalline-pure – manufactured and isolated nutrients
- Food concentrates – derived from naturally occurring, nutrient-rich foods; also includes co-factor nutrients normally found in the same foods as the primary nutrient. This is hugely important.
Food-concentrate, food form, and food source supplements are vastly superior over the crystalline-pure forms in most cases because:
- Food-based supplements contain nutrients in the form normally found in food.
- Food-based supplements act in your body like food, whereas crystalline-pure nutrients can have an effect like a drug.
- Food-based nutrients tend to work more efficiently and completely, since all of the naturally occurring synergists are present.
- Food-based nutrients tend to support body function as a whole rather than creating a narrow and specific – and potentially imbalanced – result.
- Food-based nutrients tend to have a more gentle and balanced action in your body, whereas crystalline-pure forms tend to create imbalances in other body functions and deplete synergistic nutrients.
It is extremely common that I find patients deficient in the very nutrients they are taking as supplements. To avoid this, the best practice is to eat organically grown foods and take a food based multivitamin/mineral/herbal supplement daily
